About Our School
Our Mission

What We Stand For

At Venture Montessori, we believe in setting a firm foundation for every child’s education.

Making use of the teaching methods created by Maria Montessori and murging it with nature/outdoor education, we strive to create an environment where your child is safe, cared for, mindful of others, their school,  their community and their world.

Our Environment

The ideal environment for Students to Grow & Excel, at their own pace.

A child’s mind is extremely absorbent and curiosity is at a peak during these early years.  When properly nourished and stimulated, the child forms healthy patterns for a lifetime of learning.

There is a respect, love and co-operation among the children as they socialise and learn. Montessori is as much an attitude about education and children as it is a specific method with certain materials.

The children set their own pace to their own learning. It is not a static environment and is an ever-changing  environment. Children learn by working independently with specially designed materials in a prepared environment. The child is taught how to use the materials, whereafter they practice using the materials and grow in their proficiency and mastery of the skill being learned.

The classroom design is beautiful and interesting to the child in order to facilitate learning and materials and exercises are designed to stimulate independent exploration.  The prepared environment entices the child to proceed at his own pace, from simple activities to more complex ones. A classroom of Montessori children can be observed as a collaborative,  busy hive of children.

The classroom is open-ended, ever-changing and full of teachable, and A-ha moments.

vAfivebout Venture

When Venture started in February 2014 it was an immediate success. Creating a school unlike anything seen in the South of Johannesburg before has come down to the community of families having an unshakable trust in the lady at the helm of Venture, Mary de Witt.

Mary has over 25 years of experience working with children locally and internationally. Having worked at American summer camps and environmental education centers for nearly a decade, running many programs and eventually running a whole camp as assistant director, Mary moved to South Africa to get married and start a family. She has a degree in Recreation & Wildlife Management, along with two diplomas in Montessori Education.

Bringing Venture to life was a labour of love for Mary, who started with just 14 kids that moved with her from a previous school that closed. Through nurturing and providing the best possible care and service to children, parents, and families as a whole, Mary has built a community that truly feels like family.

The exclusive nature of keeping numbers low at Venture ensures undivided attention for every student, which in turn cultivates a deep love for learning carried by each child throughout their lives. Our creative and nurturing environment provides children with opportunities to discover and become independent. With a strong focus on tactile and outdoor education, Venture Montessori creates a unique learning experience for children between the ages of two to five years old.

Mary has a passion for seeing the lives of young children impacted positively and making sure that impact lasts a lifetime. In the years of growing and cultivating Venture and the amazing community of families that support the school, hundreds of kids have had their lives impacted and irrevocably changed.

Our Vision

magnify learning through discovery

All of our teachers are fully trained in Montessori methods, C.P.R. and nature play, as the local CAPS curriculum is implemented into our everyday schedule. Children are encouraged to explore, discover, create, get dirty and express themselves in various ways.

We maintain an underlying Christian ethos at Venture, which includes strong focus on grace and courtesy. We also weave the philosophy of “Reduce, re-use and recycle” throughout all areas of our curriculum. Mindfulness and cultural awareness is a huge part of the curriculum at Venture Montessori.

The children have many practical life /teachable moments at their fingertips. For instance a vegetable garden that is planted and tended to by the children throughout the year. Parents and children all have had a hand in the planning and implementation of our huge mud/sand kitchen and play area, which is filled with upcycled elements that further enforce our nature-conscious and sustainability mindsets.
